What Is Your Gut Type? Take Our Gut Quiz to Find Yours
By Dr. Josh Axe

As a trained clinical nutritionist and someone who has studied ancient Chinese herbalism for years, I’m absolutely certain that a one-size-fits-all approach to wellness simply doesn’t work.
That’s why I created this Gut Type Quiz — so you can ID which of the five gut types you’re dealing with.
Tapping into the tenets of ancient Chinese herbalism, I created five different gut types impacting modern-day people, along with a set of basic protocols specific to each type to point you in the right direction. Once you take the quiz, you’ll automatically receive bite-sized nuggets of information to help you shift your daily routine and food choices to cultivate a happier gut.
What’s so interesting about this — and what’s often missing in Western health approaches — is this quiz dives into how your emotions and habits (not just your food choices) are impacting your gut’s current state.
I put the five gut types into categories that take your emotions, cravings, habits and how you experience your days into account.
My training in traditional Chinese herbalism was invaluable in creating this tool and recommendations because as we know, what’s going on in our gut can impact our lives in so many other ways that span far beyond the digestive tract. Those practicing ancient health traditions have known this for centuries.
What's your gut type? Let’s dive into the characteristics of the five main gut types: Yeasty Gut, Stressed Out Gut, Immune System Support Gut, Angry Gut and Bloated Gut.
When it comes to gut comments I hear about on a daily basis, sub-par probiotics and the occasional yogurt won’t get the job done. Oftentimes, the gas, constipation or skin health issues we’re dealing with are rooted in imbalances that slowly changed our bodies over time.
The No. 1 place I like to start when dealing with anyone? The gut.
Knowing your gut type is at the root of maximizing your wellness.
So I created a line of SBO Probiotics unlike anything else out there, using specific probiotic strains, CFU counts and accompanying botanical ingredients to target your specific gut type.
My main focus here was formulating using beneficial, “soil-based organisms,” or SBOs. These are the same probiotic strains our ancestors were exposed to and ingested daily while walking barefoot and foraging for food. Today, most of us aren’t getting nearly enough.
Our SBOs are shown to survive:
Stomach acid
Body temperature
Bile
Caffeine
They don’t require refrigeration, which only makes sense, since your average body temperature far exceeds your refrigerator’s set temperature of 40° Fahrenheit or below.
Once you take the gut type quiz, I’ll assign your type to the best probiotic supplement for you — specifically, the most beneficial SBO Probiotics (as well as dietary and lifestyle suggestions) for a more targeted approach.
A gut with a general imbalance of microbes such as bacteria and yeast.
Feelings of worry
Lack of focus
Chronic white coating on your tongue
Recommended Probiotic: SBO Probiotics - Ultimate (Take 2 caps in the a.m.)
A “burned out” gut that’s juggling a million things in a day and running thin on patience.
Chronic stress on the moderate to high scale
Sugar cravings
Typically consume more than 200 milligrams of caffeine daily
Recommended Probiotic: SBO Probiotics - Women's or SBO Probiotics - Men’s (Take 2 capsules in the a.m.)
An underachieving, “down-and-out” gut ready for immune system support.
Feel “down” for long periods of time
Trouble staying on task
Born via C-section (and/or gave birth via C-section)
Recommended Probiotic: SBO Probiotics - Gut Restore (Take 2 capsules in the a.m.)
A gut that is simply unhappy dealing with occasional constipation or diarrhea.
Feelings of frustration and anger
Trouble forgiving others
Current or past need for gallbladder support
Recommended Probiotic: SBO Probiotics - Women's or SBO Probiotics - Men’s (Take 2 caps in the a.m.)
A fiery gut that deals with occasional post-meal gas, bloating and indigestion.
Feelings emotionally charged and jittery is common
Fiery personality (some call it “high-strung”)
Often need to prop up pillows at bedtime after eating late-night spicy foods
Recommended Probiotic: SBO Probiotics - Gut Restore (Take 2 capsules in the a.m.)
So, what gut type are you?
Luckily, you don’t have to guess. We have a quiz to help put you on the right path.
And whether you use SBO Probiotics probiotics or not, I’m deeply committed to helping you start thinking about gut health in a whole new way. So anyone who takes the gut quiz will also receive a free plan with other lifestyle hacks to boost gut health.
Let’s say goodbye to one-size-fits-all approaches and learn to harness the power of specific , lifestyle practices and supplements most targeted to support your unique gut type.
As a doctor of natural medicine and clinical nutritionist, I am certain that a one-size-fits-all approach is not helpful when you’re looking to maximize your wellness potential.
What’s going on in one person’s gut may be very different than what’s going on in another’s, so it’s important to identify and understand the different gut types, related challenges and strategies to create better health.
This is nothing new. Since the days of ancient Chinese herbalism, health protocols took an individualistic approach and focused on the gut to bring about optimized health.
I categorized gut types into five main categories: Yeasty Gut, Stressed Out Gut, Bloated Gut, Angry Gut and Immune System Support Gut.
Take the free What’s Your Gut Type Quiz and receive your gut type, the best and worst foods for that type and a recommended daily routine FREE.
